FAQs

We often get asked a lot of questions. Check to see if you have the same ones!

What are our members saying about us?

Check out our testimonials to hear what our CERC members love about us!

Do the volunteers get paid?

No - none of our board members, coaches or pacers get paid, however, they are provided an incentive if they meet their criteria for the season.

Are the CERC coaches certified?

Yes.  All of our coaches have trained with many coaching organizations including the Road Runners Club of America, Team Oregon and the North American Academy for Sport Fitness Professionals.

Do I have to train for a race?

We offer a variety of schedules for different fitness levels and goals.  We focus on smart training that will keep you healthy and active for many years.  If a race is not your goal, simply come out and run with us for the fun, socialization and health benefits!

How old do I have to be to join?

CERC is an adult running club, but we have had some young athletes join us on several occasions.  Contact us to find out if we are a good fit!

I can't make every run, can I still join?

Yes!  While we would love to see you at every single run, we understand that you lead a busy life!  Don't underestimate the power of accountability and support though!

Can I join mid-season?

Of course!  We offer many schedules for a variety of fitness levels and distance goals.  We would love for you to join us at the level that is most appropriate for your current training.  Our #1 goal is to keep you injury free, so contact our coaching team to discuss.  Also, check out our Training Schedules page for a description of our plans.

I am new to running/starting again. How much should I be running before I join the group?

5k/10k training: Ideally a runner should be able to run 2-3 miles per week and run one mile without stopping prior to the commencement of the season.

Half Marathon training:  You should be running at least 12-14 miles/week for several weeks prior to the start of the season, and should have the time to commit to 5 days of running.

Marathon training:  You should be running at least 18-22 miles/week for several weeks prior to the start of the season, and have the time to commit to 5 days of running.

What are the benefits of membership?

We pride ourselves on bringing our members all the benefits of a big club, but with a small group feel.  We are constantly working to bring more value to the club while adapting to the needs of our members.  For our latest membership packages, visit out home page or contact us with any questions you may have.

Are the group runs paced?

All Saturday morning group runs at both locations are paced by our amazing group of pace leaders.  Paces vary by location, so contact us to find out what groups we are currently offering.  All paces are welcome, including walkers!

Where are the group runs held?

Saturday morning group runs are held at St. Charles Preparatory School in Bexley and Baltimore United Methodist Church in Baltimore, Ohio.  Wednesday evening group locations vary for each group.

Do you offer discounts or payment options on membership fees?

If you need assistance, please contact us to discuss.

How much does it cost?

With CERC being a 100% volunteer based, non-profit running club, we do our best to keep membership prices low!  Annual memberships are $80 plus a processing fee and 6 month memberships are $45 plus processing.  100% of your membership fees will go back into the club, and not someone's pocket.  Our volunteers are here because they love the running community and want to keep our members strong and healthy for years to come.

Why is there a membership fee? What does it cover?

100% of your membership fee goes back into the club! We are a non-profit run by volunteers so that means all of your money goes to Gatorade, gear, events, coaching certifications & more things for you!

When does the season start?

Beginning in 2023 we are offering annual memberships which means we will run all year long.  We offer traditional half and full marathon training with two 18-20 weeks seasons each year.  Winter season typically begins in early to mid-December and ends the weekend of the Cap City Half Marathon.  Summer season typically begins in early June and ends the weekend of the Columbus Marathon.  For all the weeks between, you are welcome to join us for a run, take a break or follow our newest annual training program that is designed for those participating in the RUNColumbus Race Series.
